His life
The Austrian artist lived from 1862 to 1918. He grew up with six siblings in Vienna, where he spent most of his life. He studied at the Vienna School of Applied Arts and then worked as an artist. The Kunstvereinigung Secession, founded by him in 1897, quickly gained notoriety and created a modern art style. Klimt had several cohabitants and six children, but was never married. At the age of 56, the artist died in a hospital in Vienna.
Early work
At the beginning of his artistic career he created detailed portraits as well as later portraits of women in impressionist style, such as the portrait of Sonja Knips. Portraits of women were to remain one of the painter's favorite motifs later on.
As a celebrated artist he had the opportunity during the course of his career to portray many ladies of the then upper class. These paintings, such as the portrait of Marie Henneberg or the portrait of Emilie Flöge, can be purchased as a canvas painting for your home.
Viennese Art Nouveau
His art is mainly attributed to the Viennese Art Nouveau, which is characterized by curved lines and floral forms that dominate, for example, in his Stoclet frieze of 1911 with the motif of the tree of life.
Ornate surfaces, such as those found in many of Gustav Klimt's works, are characteristic of Viennese Art Nouveau.
Well-known pictures
Among other things, the artist is famous for works such as "The Kiss", which was created between 1907-1908. The motif "The three ages of women" is still fascinating. It shows a young woman who works harmoniously and peacefully in unity with her child. In stark contrast, an old woman stands in the shade, head down.
No less well known is the Beethoven Frieze, a fantastic and not uncontroversial work that interprets Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. The work of art still adorns a hall in the Viennese Secession for 34 meters. You can decorate your room with parts of this artwork as a canvas painting with or without frame.
